Winter in India is dry as there is the least possibility of rain in winter. As a result, dullness and dryness become a matter of regular affairs. Along with that, the pollution level also increases rapidly. The dust particles in the air cross the safe limits in most of the cities in India. Though the cold atmosphere of winter is more appreciated than the summers in India, yet the season is not so friendly for our hair and skin.

From dull hair to dry scalp, dandruff to split ends, winter can come out to be the most problematic season of the year. The mandatory use of room heaters or humidifiers affects the most. Sudden change in temperature while moving from indoor to outdoor or vice versa damages our hair and skin vividly.

Problems and Solutions

Dry scalp

Dry scalp is the most faced problem during winter. You may find white flakes caused by the cold weather. Your scalp requires proper nourishment to keep your hair healthy. Because without adequate nutrition you can suffer from dandruff, damaged ends and splits, dehydration of the skin. As a result, you may lose hair.

Solution:

  • Regularly massage your scalp with olive oil or coconut oil for taking care of your scalp.
  • Then gently massage on your scalp with your finger tips.
  • After that, wash your hair with lukewarm water. It will help a lot.

Dandruff

Though most people suffer from dandruff throughout the year, it is a kind of topical infection which may include itching as well. The dry, windy atmosphere of winter makes it more difficult for you in winter. The complications related to dandruff gets worst in winter.

Solution:

  • Keeping your scalp moistured is the only way to keep dandruff away from you.
  • Regular cleaning of your scalp is also compulsory because it will reduce the tendency of infection.
  • Use gentle shampoo to clean your scalp and hair.

Frizzy hair

People who have long hair, you may prefer to dry your hair before moving out. So, you generally use blow dryers. But the heat coming from your dryer can damage your hair follicles. As a result, your hair becomes stiff and easily breakable. Along with this, the effects of cold weather make your hair dry and frizzy. Your hair looks unhealthy.

Solution:

  • Try to use the hairdryers and other styling tools that require heat in minimum level to prevent this problem.
  • The best remedy is allowing your hair to dry naturally. It will keep the vital nutrients intact in your hair.
  • Maintain the distance of at least 6 inches from your scalp while using the blow dryer.
  • Try to towel dry your hair before using a blow dryer.

Dull hair

The dry and cold winter can also affect your hair colour, leaving it limp and dull.

Solution:

  • Prevent and protect with appropriate products (mostly if you have gone for colouring your hair recently) to rejuvenate the health and add shine to your hair.

Split ends

Any way or the other dry hair and split ends tend to occur more in winter than different seasons.

Solution:

  • To eradicate this troublesome issue of split ends, we suggest you trim your hairregularly.You need to understand that If you do not have the hair cut in regular intervals, it will continue to split and damage your hair eventually. It is essential to take care of your hair to keep them from continuous splitting.

Flyaway hair & Static

We know that winter season is dry as the level of moisture gets reduced in the air rapidly. It can bechallenging for your hair. Because this dryness takes away moisture from your hair.

Solution:

  • To protect your hair from this problem,prevent your hair from flying in any unwanted directions.
  • Apply conditioning treatments to your hair. Try to stick with cotton hats to keep your hair warm.
  • Avoid woollen and acrylic hats which can increase the static energy.

Straw-Like Hair

The rapid drop of moisture levels in the air can hamper your hair tremendously. As a result, your hair starts looking like straw. It is the reason that the hair cuticles become rough. Eventually, the structure of your hair looks completely lifeless. The situation is even worse for curly hair because curly hairs are already quite dry generally.

Solution:

  • Avoid using the heat styling tools and let your hair breathe.
  • Be gentle while applying shampoo to your hair.
  • Avoid rubbing or aggressive scrubbing your scalp while washing.
  • Use a shampoo which can hydrate your scalp and hair and use conditioner.
  • Change your pillowcase at regular intervals.
